Abdullahi said he peeped into the crowd and saw a goat chewing a lizard. “I noticed that the lizard was wriggling, trying to escape,” he said. Abdullahi said he later gathered that the crowd actually began to assemble when the goat was chasing the lizard, cat-and-mouse style. A young boy, chasing a bouncing ball, first spotted the odd ‘combatants’.

 

Umar Yusuf, 22, is the owner of the goat with a most unusual palate, and he told Weekly Trust that he was shocked when he was told about his goat’s hunt-and-kill skills. “I was at school when my friend Usman informed me about the development. I was shocked because I’ve never heard of something like that,” Yusuf said.

Yusuf added that he doesn’t want the ravenous goat anymore. So much so, he has sold it off, including all the goats in his modest herd. “I sold the controversial, lizard-eating one at the cost of N4,700. I don’t think I can buy another goat as all that strangeness has put me off them. I’m even a bit scared, really.” He told Weekly Trust that he’s so rattled, that he’ll probably never own another animal. “My parents advised me to dispose of them all, since that one animal caused a lot of debate in the area,” he said.
