“We have confirmed one case of monkeypox in the state and all measures were taken to ensure that the patient was well treated. The person has been discharged to his family.
“We have 15 other suspected cases and their samples have been taken to the national laboratory Abuja and their results are expected hopefully within the week,” he said.
The distribution of the free drugs, the commissioner said was a proactive measure against a possible outbreak of diseases usually associated with the rainy season.
“The drugs being launched today are for the improvement of maternal and child health care and survival. The contents of which include IV Fluids, maternal iron folic-acid tablets for the prevention and treatment of anaemia; uterotonics for the prevention and treatment of postpartum haemorrhage; antimalarial and antibiotics for children and adults.
We have also made provisions for drugs for the management of epidemics like Meningitis, Measles and Cholera,” the commissioner has said.
Danja also unveiled 140 units of TCW40 Solar Direct Drive vaccine refrigerators received from the NPHCDA for onward distribution to PHCs across the state, a gesture which he said will improve vaccine storage potency and reduce the cost of distribution.
