However, farmers from the six irrigation sites expressed concern about the innovation, hoping that the trial will not affect their yields during the dry season farming.
One of the benefiting farmers, Saidu Sani of Bakori, said while the innovation was a welcome development, he feared for his farm output.
On their parts, Sule Dikko and Mohammed Bello, farmers at Malumfashi and Kankia irrigation sites respectively, hoped the new fertiliser can address some of the peculiar soil diseases and insects that affect their yields.
The chairman of Jibia irrigation farmers, Audi Maikalanda, said: “We are not new to liquid fertiliser as we have been using it but the question is what makes yours unique and better than what we are used to?”
On her part, the representative of AgriGro, the merchants of the product, Oderinde Olufunke, while allaying fears nursed by the farmers, said the fertiliser represented a new generation of bio stimulant technology containing complex carbohydrates, plant essential macro and micro nutrients, enzymes, amino acids and naturally occurring plant and soil nutrient not found in the conventional fertiliser.
According to her, for over thirty years the product has been used in the US and certified by Nigerian government, adding that it was designed to improve soil structure, increase fertiliser efficiency and plant growth by boosting yield and lowering disease pressure.
She said, the guaranteed analysis of the product has been validated by the Department of Soil science Institute for Agricultural Research in ABU Zaria, noting that the efficacy prompted them to bring it to the farmers’ door steps for them to use.
