Eighteen years after their last appearance, Katsina H3 Polo team made a long-awaited return to the Ibadan Polo Arena as the 2025 NPA Ibadan International Polo Tournament galloped off Monday.

The northern team, featuring Ahmed Rabi’u, Tukur Dambo, Munir Sulaimon, and Ibrahim Audu, faced off against the Ibadan Imperial Polo Club in the opening match at Eleyele.

Katsina H3 joins a host of other debutants this year, including Port Elizabeth FB 9, Port Harcourt Indian Warriors, and Team ASR, all vying for honours in the prestigious tournament.

Speaking at a press conference, Tournament Chairman and Vice President of the Ibadan Polo Club, Bola Adeyemi, expressed delight at Katsina H3’s return, saying that the team’s long absence had been due to certain unresolved issues which have now been addressed.

“We’re excited to welcome Katsina H3 back to Ibadan. Their return adds great value to this tournament,” he said.

He said this year’s edition features a record-breaking 18 teams; 10 visiting and 8 home-based, making it one of the most competitive tournaments in the event’s history.

“A major highlight, the Ibadan Cup, promises to reignite fierce rivalries, especially following the excitement of the 2024 edition. Numerous side attractions and top-tier entertainment are planned throughout the week, while stringent security measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and secure tournament,” he said.
