The Katsina Local Government Chairman, Hon. Isah Miqdad AD Saude, officially declared open a Capacity Building Workshop for Sanitation Vanguards on Open Defecation and Hygiene Promotion, on Wednesday.
In his opening remarks, Hon. Miqdad emphasized the administration’s commitment to achieving an Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in Katsina Local Government, aligning with both state and federal government policies on sanitation and public health.
He noted that open defecation poses a serious threat to community health, dignity, and environmental safety, stressing the urgent need for collective action.
The Chairman explained that the workshop was designed to equip sanitation vanguards with the necessary knowledge and skills to drive behavioral change, enforce hygiene practices, and sustain community-led sanitation programs across the wards of Katsina Local Government.
He further urged the vanguards to inculcate the habit of engaging with community leaders and security agencies in reporting defaulters caught in the act of open defecation, as such collaboration will strengthen enforcement and compliance.
While acknowledging the unwavering support of the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, Hon. Miqdad expressed optimism that the partnership between government institutions, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders will yield visible results in reducing open defecation and promoting proper hygiene.
The workshop brought together sanitation officers, community health workers, youth leaders, and other critical stakeholders, marking another milestone in the Council’s proactive agenda on public health and environmental sanitation.
