Katsina: Non-payment of allowances may jeopardise Polio exercise

The non-payment of allowances of members of Katsina state social mobilisation committee on Polio immunisation may jeopardise on-going polio immunisation campaigns in the state, Daily Trust reports.

Daily Trust learnt that the members are owed four supervision allowances after four different polio rounds of N10,000 each.

Some of the members who confided in our reporter said it was expected that at each round the money is supposed to be made available to enable them mobilise communities to make children available for immunisation.

“As I’m talking with you, most of our members have made up their minds to do away with the exercise since we spend our personal monies and government support is not coming,” a member said.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the committee, Saidu Jibrin said the little the members were given now has to do with the situation of the country and when the economy improves. I can assure you things will improve as well.

“It is not mandatory that the N10,000 be paid to all and all  the members are aware that the money will be brought down, we started as a volunteer services having been earning salaries from our various places of work,” he said.
