The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, Hadiza Ibrahim, for allegedly masterminding a series of shoplifting operations across markets within the Katsina metropolis, recovering stolen items valued at over ₦10 million.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command said the arrest followed a report filed on March 4, 2026, by the Chief Security Officer of Green House, Katsina, who alerted authorities to repeated theft incidents within the commercial facility.

According to the statement, the Police investigations revealed that the suspect was caught on Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at Green House, where she was seen discreetly stealing various goods from a shop and acting on the footage, operatives tracked and closely monitored her movements, leading to her eventual arrest.

It revealed that subsequent search conducted at her residence uncovered a large cache of stolen items, including 274 sets of shoes, 37 pairs of veils, 67 sportswear sets, 54 children’s outfits, 123 pairs of caps and 315 sets of socks.

Other recovered items included 45 women’s wrappers, nine handbags, three cartons of spaghetti, 24 bottles of perfumes, five cartons of soap, assorted fashion jewellery, and a sack containing various cooking seasonings and spices.

Police said the recovered items, collectively valued at N10,102,000, have since been identified by their rightful owners, with more victims, mostly shop owners, coming forward during the course of the investigation.

Further findings indicated that the suspect had a history of shoplifting and theft across multiple locations in the state.

She reportedly confessed to the crimes during interrogation.

Similarly, the police confirmed that the suspect had been charged to court and would face prosecution.

Commending the operatives for their diligence, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State urged business owners to remain vigilant and adopt stronger security measures to safeguard their shops.
