The Katsina State Police Command on Friday unveiled a new Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security operations and combat violent crimes across the state.

The initiative is aimed at improving the operational capacity of the police in responding to emerging security threats, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities affecting communities in the state.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Katsina, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage said the establishment of the unit aligns with the reform agenda and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to enhance efficiency, accountability and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

Fage explained that the newly established unit was designed to consolidate tactical operational structures into a more coordinated and intelligence-driven framework capable of delivering rapid and effective responses to security challenges.

“The establishment of the VCRU is a strategic step towards consolidating the efforts of all tactical operational units into a more coordinated, intelligence-driven structure capable of responding swiftly and effectively to emerging security threats,” he said.

He noted that the unit would focus on combating armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, unlawful possession of firearms and other violent crimes threatening peace and security across the state.

According to him, the creation of the unit comes at a critical time and is expected to strengthen the state’s security architecture while also boosting public trust and confidence in policing efforts.

The launch of the VCRU is seen as part of broader efforts by security agencies to improve crime prevention and ensure a more coordinated response to security threats in Katsina State.
