At least 70 patients suffering from cancer and kidney ailments are expected to benefit from a sum of N20m earmarked by Katsina state government to support their medical expenses.

The state Commissioner of Women Affairs, Dr Badiyya Mashi, who disclosed this while presenting cheque to some beneficiaries at Funtua General Hospital, said each cancer patient would get N200, 000, while kidney patient would receive N150, 000.

Dr Mashi said 10 patients diagnosed with critical cancer and kidney problems were selected from each general hospital in the seven old local governments of state for the gesture.

The commissioner said the vulnerable and the rural dwellers in the state, particularly women and children, were the target persons in the new initiative during the third phase of the exercise.

Aside the health support for women and children, the ministry has also empowered over 497 women with vocational skills to make them self reliant.

Earlier, the Medical Director, Funtua General Hospital, Dr Faruk Adamu Musa, stressed the need for the establishment women and child healthcare centre in the area to reduce cases of infant mortality.
