About 2 million children under 5 years and over 400,000 women are expected to benefit from a week long Maternal, new born and child health week (MNCHW) campaign.

Speaking at the flag up, the state governor Aminu Masari said the rationale behind the campaign was to reduce morbidity and mortality among pregnant mothers and children under five across the state.

According to him, the state has planned to render a wide range of health care intervention in 3 health care facilities in every ward of the state’s 34 LGA’s adding that all the intervention to be provided are free of charge”

Represented by the permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Kabir Mustapha, Masari said a lot of intervention has led to improvement in the state health sector and government will not relent in that regards.

Earlier, the Executive secretary of the primary health care development agency, Dr Maawuya Aliu said all requirements need for the campaign have been sourced saying that ” we have up to 1,083 posts each with 5 number of personnel that will be working for 5 days to provide services across the state.

In his remarks, the emir of Katsina Abdulmumini Kabir Usman called on parents to avail their wards and children to the campaign for greater development and growth of the state.
