Katsina: Troops crush notorious bandit commanders, seize arms, cash

The Katsina State Government said troops of the 17 Brigade have neutralised four suspected terrorists during a patrol along the Turare-Yantumaki Road.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs on Saturday, the operation took place at about 11:40 a.m. on Friday when the troops came under attack by armed assailants.

The soldiers responded swiftly, overpowering the attackers and eliminating all four without sustaining any casualties.

Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two motorcycles, multiple mobile phones, and cash amounting to N153,400.

Authorities disclosed that some of the recovered Android phones contained images of the suspects dressed in military gear, and have since been handed over for forensic analysis.

Preliminary intelligence identified the neutralised suspects as Bishir Holami, Jamilu Baki, Ibrahim Doro, and Abdurraman Maje.

The government described them as key figures behind a series of deadly attacks in Gobirawa, Raddawa, Kuki, and other communities within Dutsinma and Matazu Local Government Areas of the State.

Officials noted that their elimination delivers a significant setback to a notorious bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani, whose network has been linked to violent activities across Matazu, Musawa, Charanchi, and Kankia areas.

The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said the success underscores Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s sustained commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring normalcy across the state.

He reassured residents that the government remains resolute in its efforts to safeguard lives and property, stressing that security forces have intensified offensive operations against criminal elements.

He urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies, noting that timely and credible intelligence from communities has played a crucial role in recent operational successes.
