The Korean Cultural Centre, Nigeria (KCCN) has announced plans to encourage musical collaborations between Nigerian and Korean musicians.
Jeon Ju Ho, the Director of KCCN, disclosed this while speaking at the opening ceremony of an exhibition tagged: “K-Pop meets Korean traditional music” in Abuja on Monday.
He said, though there have not been any collaborations so far, the KCCN was looking at the possibilities in the near future.
“We are promoting Korean traditional music to Nigeria, but also hoping that there can be opportunities that traditional Nigerian music can also be introduced to Korea.

“We are also open to collaboration opportunities, for example, having Afro-beat artistes with Korean artistes. It will be an interesting trial,” Ho said while speaking through an interpreter.
K-Pop, which originated from Korea, is now beloved by countless fans around the world, and its music contains elements of Korean traditional music, providing a deeper emotional impact.
According to the organisers, the exhibition is part of the “2025 Touring K-Arts Program” by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange.
“We aim to introduce the new artistic attempts created when K-pop and Korean traditional music meet within the flow of the Korean Wave, and the original forms of Korean traditional music that can be seen within K-pop.
First, we will show how Korean traditional music is being interpreted within K-Pop, and present the branches of Korean traditional music that can be found in various K-Pop works, divided into three branch categories,” he said.
