The Kaduna state government has said it has spent N889.3million on contracts awarded between 2015-2017 in Jaba local government.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hafsat Baba- Ahmed stated this on Tuesday during a Kaduna state policy town hall meeting organized by Budget and Planning Commission in collaboration with Ministry of Local Government.

Baba said the government spent a total of N254.9m on education, explaining that  work done included construction of a block of examination halls, rehabilitation of eight classrooms, construction of  six toilets and provision of eight solar powered boreholes in various communities.

According to her, in the health sector, N286.8million was invested. She said a general hospital was renovated alongside  10 primary healthcare centres, construction of staff quarters, construction of toilets and solar powered boreholes, supply of medical equipment, furniture, purchase of ambulance and fencing of some  primary healthcare centres.

The commissioner also said N7million had been spent for water and sanitation. She said they constructed VIP toilets in various locations.

She added that N340.5milion was spent for the construction of township roads and a 30m bridge, while women empowerment was also given priority with the construction of a rehabilitation centre where women could acquire different skills.

“Jaba local government has been  captured to host one of such centres in Zone III in addition to financial support scheme of N2 million for women engaged in SMEs,” she said.

She said the present sole administrator of the local government had dug 20 boreholes in the area in addition to renovation of primary healthcare centres, council secretariat, primary schools and purchase of medical equipment to boost maternal care.

Also speaking, chairman of Persons Living with Disabilities, Emmanuel Daniel, appreciated the state for construction of the rehabilitation centre.

“During Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s campaign in 2015, we the disabled contributed money and gave him for his campaign.

“We appeal to him to remember us because we have 529 disabled in Jaba and some of them want to go to school,” he said

Earlier in her speech, the sole administrator, Hadiza Mua’zu, said the event was to articulate the promises made by the present administration and to present a scorecard of what had been achieved so far.

Mua’zu said the event was significant as it would help build the confidence of the people and give them a sense of inclusion as the achievements had direct bearing on the people.

The programme focused on three key areas including, Economic development, social welfare and security and justice.
