Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has distributed farm inputs, including power tillers and solar pumping machines, to farmers as part of efforts to kick-start the 2026 dry season farming.

The distribution exercise, held under the Kauran Gwandu Agricultural Development Agenda (KADAGE), also featured the launch of Ramadan palliatives for residents.

The governor said the initiative aims to empower farmers, improve productivity and strengthen food security in the state and across Nigeria.

He noted that rice production in the state increased from 3.5 million tonnes last year and projected over 3.8 million tonnes this year.

He added that the administration had earlier distributed fertilisers worth over N3 billion free of charge to farmers to boost output.

Governor Idris also disclosed that assorted grains had been procured for distribution to over one million residents as Ramadan support.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, who attended the event, described Kebbi as a key agricultural hub where farming remains a major livelihood.

He said the state aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda on food security and praised the distribution of modern farm equipment.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Mu’azu, said the gesture fulfilled campaign promises to farmers, while RIFAN Chairman Yusuf Gabi Argungu commended the government, pledging farmers’ continued support for agricultural reforms.
