The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Thursday, suspended the Commissioner for Health, Yunusa Musa Ismail, over negligence of duty and disregard for his mandate.

His suspension may not be unconnected with the controversial arrest of the man, Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa, for posting on social media the videos on the poor state of Kangiwa General Hospital.

The government has blamed an overzealous local government official for his arrest, but the governor has ordered the suspension of the state’s Commissioner for Health with immediate effect.

A release by the Governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, Yahaya Sarki, said the commissioner was directed to provide cogent reasons why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him over his negligence of his mandate.

It added that the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to accountability, discipline, and effective service delivery in all sectors to the people of the state.

The Commissioner of Information, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who spoke on behalf of the state government, said Governor Nasir Idris had ordered the immediate release of the man from the police station where he had been detained. He said, “The videos are old videos of the hospital, but were purposely circulated on social media to undermine the good work that the current administration is doing in the state”.

The commissioner added that all the general hospitals in the state are in good condition, adding that, “We understand they are circulating the old videos of the hospital to discredit this administration.”
