The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a five-man syndicate that allegedly specialised in the importation of the banned Tramadol and other illicit drugs. 

While briefing journalists on the arrest, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim M. Kabiru, said the drug peddlers were intercepted while trying to smuggle cartons of Diazepam and Tramadol into Kebbi State.

He said his men on a tip-off intercepted the vehicle of the syndicate and arrested one Abdulwahab Salihu at Yauri town with three cartons of Tramadol and 18 cartons of Diazepam.

He added that his arrest led to that of other peddlers whose names were given as Charles Ajamma, John Igwello, Osita Nneli, Emmanuel Ohamchi and Ibuka Onyema.

The CP explained that as soon as preliminary investigation is completed the suspects and exhibits would be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution.

He also stated that his command has deployed 2,557 police personnel, who included conventional policemen, police mobile force, Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) experts and traffic wardens to all worship places in the state to ensure adequate security during the Eid el-Kabir celebration.
