Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has raised a committee to probe the infractions in the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries in the state.
The committee is mandated to identify any individuals responsible for any infractions in the salary payment for the primary school teachers and to apportion blame where necessary.
It’s also mandated to confirm any infractions capable of undermining the integrity of funds released to the Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) for salary payments and implementation of the new minimum wage, and to also determine the actual monthly funding from local governments to LGEAs, particularly in relation to funding before the implementation of the new minimum wage in the state.
The committee is also empowered to recommend appropriate measures to address any identified anomalies in the state teachers’ salaries.
While inaugurating the committee at the Government House Chamber on Monday, Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice and fairness to teachers in the state schools.
He said, “I have a personal interest in this committee. I know how much the teachers were earning before, and I also know how much I approved as their new minimum wage.”
He urged members of the committee to carry out their assignment diligently and objectively, stressing that he would not tolerate any form of compromise.
The committee, chaired by Professor Malami Shehu Gulumbe, has one month to submit its report.
