Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has directed the immediate reintroduction of history lessons in all primary and secondary schools across the state.
The decision followed a courtesy visit by the Kebbi State Scholars Association to the government house in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
Professors and senior academics from various disciplines briefed the governor on the association’s objectives, including partnering with the government to accelerate development.
Dr Mansur Abubakar Warrah, a senior lecturer in History, Culture, and Religious Movements at Federal University Dutsinma, urged the government to revive the teaching of history to pass on the values and legacies of forebears to the younger generation.

“Learning history can reduce insecurity by shielding children from corrupt foreign cultural influences.
“The infiltration of harmful foreign culture has worsened crime and distorted the ideology of our youths,” he said.
“Teaching our rich cultural heritage-decency, good manners, and etiquette-at the basic education level will help shape children into law-abiding and productive citizens,” Dr Warrah added.
Governor Idris agreed with the suggestion and instructed education authorities to resume history lessons in schools.
