Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has urged its customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states not to relent in the payment of their electricity bills.

The company said the directive issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) concerns only the Maximum Demand (MD) customers.

The Media and Public Relations Officer of the power distribution company, Mohammed Kandi said the NERC’s directive instructing DiScos to provide all Maximum Demand (MD) customers with prepaid meters might have been misunderstood by the customers.

He said ‘’there was nothing ambiguous about the NERC statement to generate any controversy, the  story might have been misconstrued by several power users as a result of sensational headlines or inability of some media outfits to hit the nail on the head.”

He called on customers to disregard the misleading information and off set their bills as at when due.

He said the firm would not relent in its bid to implement the approved metering plan as it had continued to provide all category of customers in its franchise with free prepaid meters.

“We are making concerted effort to ensure all our customers are metered.In fact, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola attended the official launch of our meter deployment exercise at Kabuga in Kano, last year.

“Maximum Demand (MD) meters are used by commercial and industrial customers who consume high levels of electricity and contribute substantially to the revenues of distribution companies” he added.
