The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), branch, has called on the state government to enroll its members in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The Vice Chairman of the NSUK ASUU, Dr. Mairiga Peters, made this appeal on Friday while speaking with newsmen in Keffi.

Dr. Peters said introducing NHIS in the state would go a long way in improving the lives of the union’s members, the university community and workers in the state.

He said the university had one of the best healthcare centres in the country which qualified it as a primary healthcare provider.

He said the importance of NHIS to the development of the health sector and humanity could not be over-emphasised, hence the need for the government to introduce the scheme in the state.

“We appeal to the government to include in its healthcare policy, the university community, by introducing NHIS to it in the interest of the health of our members,” he said.

He also called on the government to fund the university adequately in order to improve on its standard. (NAN)
