The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said that there is no provision for commercial tricycles, popularly called keke and commercial motorcycles (okada) in the Abuja master plan.

The administration, therefore, warned tricycle and commercial motorcycle operators in the FCT to stay off the  main districts in the centre of the city or risk having their vehicles and bikes impounded.

The FCTA Director of Security, Mohammed Maikasuwa, who gave the warning in Abuja on Friday, reiterated that keke and okada remained banned from operating in Abuja.

He said tricycles would only operate in designated areas like estates and other districts while commercial motorcycles should stay completely off the roads in the FCT.

Maikasuwa said that the FCTA would ensure the law was not flouted.

He warned commercial motorcycle operators who insist on constituting nuisance along the major highways in the FCT, especially the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway to stay off the road or be made to face severe consequences.

He said recent reports had attributed the road traffic crashes along the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway to the nuisance constituted by the activities of commercial motorcycle operators.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Ciroma, also recently, gave the group three days to leave the city centre or they would be made to face the wrath of the law.
