At the mobile TV launch which was the highlight of the celebrations, actor and standup comedian, Mr. Victor Osuagwu commended the initiative and efforts of the organisation. “I am seeing a new development and it is a successful entrance of StarTimes. Celebrating two years of achievements is remarkable. This is our own and we should patronize it better than we do the foreign ones.

On how well it has helped the growth of the entertainment industry Osuagwu said it had done well in that it has a dedicated channel to home videos. “But, then, I would like to suggest that they do more to reach out to more people and do one or two things to encourage entertainers to be a part of it.” Laughing, he said, “They can make some of us their ambassadors. I believe this will help sell and market them the way it has worked for other companies even the rural areas.”

One of the CEOs of music label, ‘Kennis Music’, Kenny Ogungbe said, “digital broadcasting should have migrated farther than where it is today in Nigeria but the white paper by the government states that all TV stations will be digital by 2015. So it’s a good step.”

Ogungbe also shared the view that Nigeria is the leading African nation in terms of digital broadcast. “All African TV stations even DSTV, at the moment, are analogue. One only receives the signal through analogue television. Some stations in Nigeria have digital transmitters. With StarTimes it is a difficult platform for the terrestrial cable television. It sounds like technical platform but it is correct.”
