It was the second edition of the golf fiesta to be held in Nigeria, and the first to be held at the prestigious Abuja Golf Club.
At the end of hostilities at the one-day golf event, 12 awards were won in seven categories, which included overall winner, veteran (men), ladies nett, guests, auxiliary, men gross and men nett.
Nigeria was one of the few countries that had the opportunity of staging the competition in two locations, as the other edition on the Nigerian shore came up earlier in Lagos. At each venue, two winners, one each in the man and women categories will slug it out during the finals in Nairobi, Kenya in March.
The event, which was held in 18 locations across the continent of Africa, will climax in Nairobi, Kenya in March where the overall winner will be sponsored to the World Golf Tournament to be held at Saint Andrews Golf Club in the United Kingdom in July.  and other northern states to test their golfing supremacy, the occasion also served as a veritable platform for the host airways and the business class to discuss business ideas.
Apart from the golfers, staff of the airline, Kenya High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Tom Amolo was on hand to add colour and strength to the annual event.
Speaking during the trophy and awards presentation ceremony, Kenya Airways Area Manager West Africa, Rose Kiseli says the organization is ready to give Nigeria the opportunity to continue to play host to the annual golf tournament.
“This is the second time we are staging this competition in Nigeria. We had one last year in Lagos and this year we have two, one in Lagos and the second one at IBB Golf Club in Abuja. The tournaments are held annually and in different countries across the globe. This year we have it in 14 countries and we hope Nigeria is one of these countries,” Kiseli said.
She explained that the overall winner of the final tournament in Nairobi next year will be sponsored by the airways to watch the World Golf Tournament to be held at Saint Andrews Golf Club in the UK in July 2015.
“The final tournament will come up in Nairobi in March next year, and our intention is to take all the golfers that have won in the various tournaments in their respective countries to play each other in Nairobi, and the final winner will get an opportunity to go and watch the World Golf Tournament in Saint Andrews in the UK in July 2015,” she concluded.
Besides Kachi and Olawumi, M Tarfa was winner in the veteran men’s category with 84 gross with P Iwara emerging runner-up second. In the guest category, F Kasumba was winner with 94 gross and 71 nett while P Adebimpe was runner-up with 93 gross.
Former IBB Club captain Tony Azogu won the men’s best gross and was followed by A Chigbo while S Mahbubanni won the best nett men while SC Igwe placed second.
Speaking to reporters after receiving his prize, the overall winner of the Abuja edition of the Kenya Airways Golf Safari Tournament, Ndubuisi Kachi, assured Nigerians of excellent outing at the continental golf fiesta.
Kachi and Olaniyan Olawumi, who was victorious in the ladies’ section at the IBB International Golf and Country Club last Saturday will represent the club at the tournament’s final in Nairobi in March 2015.
Kachi said he would step up preparations by engaging in extensive training to ensure that he wins the final tournament.
“It was a very wonderful thing today, though I have been practicing for the tournament.
The outgoing year has been generally bad, but I said let me try out something today.
“I actually did not come with a competitive mind today; I came with a practice mind. I said let me come and practice and see what I can do next year. This year has been horrible, I have been struggling this year; so I happy to win today.
“I will continue to practice and hope to do my best for the country during the finals in Nairobi next year,” he said.
Other awards winners during the event were S Manburabani and SC Igwe who emerged winner and runner-up in the men’s best nett respectively, while Tony Azogu was winner in the men’s gross and was followed by A Achabo.
N E3dozie was runner-up to Olaniyan Olawumi in the ladies’ category, just as the veteran’s category was won by P Iwara, with M Tarfa as runner-up. In the guest category, f Kasumba was the winner while P Adebimpe was runner-up.
