The president of the NGO, Alhaji Tanimu Umaru Musa told Feverpitch that the youth football competition is his organization’s contribution towards peace and unity as he said the aim is to positively engage the youths so as to keep them away from social vices.

He said the slogan for this year’s competition which is the fifth edition is ‘Say No to Violence’.

In addition, he said the tournament is an opportunity for talented players to be identified and nurtured to make a career out of football.

Musa explained that the tournament attracted over 32 clubs in the FCT and some neighbouring states like Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi, and Niger State, thereby giving it a national spread.

“The aim of this youth tournament is to positively engage the youths. It is a platform to draw attention to the power of sports in our search for lasting peace and harmony in the society.

“Furthermore, we want to use this competition to identify hidden talents. Football talents abound in Nigeria but there are hardly enough opportunities for the youths to exhibit their God given talent.

“I am happy to inform you that important personalities like the coach of Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi would be in attendance at tomorrow’s (today) finals. I have been in touch with him and he has promised to honour us with his presence. Who knows, he may identify a talent here”.

Musa who expressed satisfaction with the standard of play at the tournament said prizes ranging from cash, medals and quality football jerseys would be given to winners at the end of the competition.

“To motivate the teams, we have cash prizes, medals and jerseys for the eventual winners. In addition, there are prizes for the Best Behaved Team, Most Valuable Player, Best Coach, Best Goalkeeper and the Highest goal-scorer”, he disclosed.

Mararaba United were winners of last year’s edition of the One Big Family Football tournament.
