The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Thursday, commissioned a newly reconstructed access road at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, executed at the cost of N1.2 billion.
He also flagged off the construction of a N1.5 billion VIP lounge at the airport. The project is aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and promoting the state’s image.
Speaking during the ceremony, Keyamo commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and collaboration with the federal government.
“This airport belongs to the people of Sokoto State. When well maintained, it can serve as a catalyst for economic growth, boost tourism, and enhance the state’s profile internationally,” the minister said.

Governor Aliyu said the new VIP lounge would be fitted with modern facilities designed to provide a world-class experience for travellers.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday, the governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, commissioned a N2.3bn water project and multimillion-naira township roads in the state.
The water project, initially launched under the administration of former Sokoto Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and completed by the current government, is designed to supply three million gallons of water daily, significantly improving access to clean water across the state.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Okpebholo described the initiative as a critical investment in public health and an example of leadership focused on people-centred development.
