Clement Iyaluegbeghe, KFN Secretary, stated this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of a two-day championships held between Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.

Iyaluegbeghe said that the aim of the championship, which was to discover budding talents to represent the country at both international and continental competitions in 2011, had been achieved.

NAN reports that not less than 12 states out of the 26 expected for the competition featured in the individual kata male and female, team kumite and team kata in both male and female categories.

The secretary expressed optimism that in 2011 the federation would be able to send athletes to participate in more international competitions.

“I was really suprise with the performance displayed by the athletes. It was obvious they were really preparing for the national sports festival billed for next year,’’ Iyaluegbeghe said.

The scribe said that at the end of the championship Delta led the medals table with seven gold, two silver and six bronze, while Abuja and Edo placed second and third respectively.

Abuja won five gold, two silver and eight bronze while Edo won one gold and one silver.

The KFN scribe also disclosed that the federation would be organising more local championships to identify more talent early in next year. (NAN)
