The immediate past president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr Musa Kida, has backtracked on his earlier resolve to hold the elections into the executive committee of the NBBF board as scheduled.
This was contained in a communiqué released after yesterday’s Extra- Ordinary Congress of the NBBF which held via Zoom, to discuss the decision of the Ministry of Youth And Sports Development to postpone the Congress
It will be recalled that the elections was scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State on October 30 2021, as approved by the Congress of October 9, 2021, held in Abuja
However, the ministry in a press statement postponed the elections till further notice.
The postponement didn’t go down well with Kida who vowed to conduct the elections as initially scheduled.
However, in a sudden twist of events, which no doubt surprised many, Kida implored the Congress of the NBBF to respect and appreciate the advice of the sports ministry to postpone the Elective Congress so that all the concerns raised for successful elections onto the new NBBF board can be addressed.
It was agreed after the meeting that the elections be postponed to a later date by a few weeks.
The Congress further mandated Kida to engage the sports ministry in a positive discussion for free, fair, transparent and successful elections to be held in order to usher in a new board for the sports federation.
