Speaking to Feverpitch yesterday, the black-belter said the league which would commence on 22 September at the indoor sports hall of Area 10 old parade ground sports complex is known as Abuja Metropolis Kiddies Taekwondo League.

He said the league which is to be sponsored by Tycoon Taekwondo Tours Sports Academy is for kids between 4-10 years and the aim is to produce athletes who would win medals for Nigeria at the 2020 Olympic games.

Yusuf explained that the maiden edition of the league is going to attract only three taekwondo clubs, namely Sunnyville, Korea Cultural Club and Games Village taekwondo club.

According to him kids from the three clubs would compete in the monthly league and in the end, over all winners would emerge on the basis of points garnered.

We have concluded arrangements for the inaugural edition of the Abuja Metropolis Kiddies Taekwondo League to debut. The aim of the league is to produce talents who would represent and win medals in taekwondo for Nigeria at the 2020 Olympic Games.

We are accepting kids within the ages of 4 and 10 so that we can start with them early. We are going to start with kids from the sunnyville, Games Village and Korea Cultural centre club.

Competition will be held on monthly basis and winners would emerge based on accumulated points. For a start we are expecting at least 200 kids who would be supervised by black-belters”.

Yusuf reiterated that talents identified would be nurtured and monitored to represent the country in future.
