Kidnap, killing of Col. Inusa: We want the whole story

When I read in Daily Trust that policemen attached to the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Kaduna State Command Intelligence Bureau (SIB) smashed a killer gang, arresting four men suspected as being the criminals who kidnapped and killed Colonel Samaila Inusa in Kaduna, I was, to say the least, very happy. However, I was a bit downcast, as details of the tragic and outrageous incident, were sparse. For something that outraged a nation to that extent, the authorities owe Nigerians the complete story behind it.
The statement from police spokesperson, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said the operatives also recovered guns, ammunitions and a vehicle from them. So? Isn’t there more information we should know? Colonel Inusa, a Chief Instructor at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna State, was kidnapped and later found dead in Kaduna in March, sparking nationwide outrage and giving rise to many theories as to what happened, as Nigerians are wont to do. This is exactly why we deserve to know the truth behind the incident. Yes, the perpetrators are being arraigned, but shouldn’t we get blow-by-blow accounts of what really happened? Instead we are given tit bits, which is giving rise to more new theories. Is someone trying to block the news? If not, then please give it adequate coverage. My plea is to both security operatives and media practitioners.
But I admit I am impressed with the way they were nabbed. After the kidnapping and killing of the officer, the IGP’s IRT deployed technical and human intelligence assets of the force which led to the arrest of a Prison Warder named Abdullahi Adamu, a close associate of one of the prime suspects who was using a Tecno mobile phone stolen from the slain colonel. Further investigation led to the arrest of the prime suspects, who specialised in car snatching. It was particularly scary that items recovered from them include one AK 47 rifle, two magnum pistols, three deadly weapons capable of wreaking much havoc.
While they have been arraigned, I implore authorities responsible to make available the full story to Nigerians, if not to satisfy curiosity, then to provide insight into the criminals’ ways and modus operandi, which will help would-be victims avoid falling for. In closing, I would like to thank the police and their commendable swiftness in solving the case, while I extend sincere, heartfelt condolences to his family on their loss of the officer, who from all accounts I’ve read, is a gentleman and thorough professional.
