A man, identified as Sergius, who was abducted alongside his pregnant wife, Zainab, has regained his freedom after two months in captivity in Edo State.
Sergius and his wife were reportedly kidnapped on November 22, 2025, in the Aviele community, near Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area.
While his wife was released earlier, Sergius was finally freed by his captors on Wednesday.
A viral video of his release that surfaced on social media showed him surrounded by relatives and friends. In the video, he is heard saying, “This my dress is a white jalabia; it is white, but it has turned black,” referring to the harsh conditions he endured during his ordeal.
Following their abduction, the kidnappers had released a video of the couple demanding a ransom of N50 million. That footage showed the victims, including the pregnant Zainab, pleading for public assistance to raise the money.
Reports indicate that the family was only able to raise about N7 million at the time, which led to the initial release of Zainab.
Sources confirmed she was let go after that portion of the ransom was paid.
