The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff kidnapped by militants on June 5.

Otobong Ukpong was reportedly abducted on his way to work along with eight others including a minor.

Speaking yesterday in Uyo, the Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, said the rescue of the victim was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies in the state.

He stated that at about 1200hrs, security operatives flushed out hoodlums terrorizing Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas and rescued the nine kidnapped victims.

Ogunjemilusi added that on August 16, the police also rescued an unknown lady who was still in coma, noting that the rescue operation led to the death of a gallant police officer, one Sgt. Shedrach Stephen.

He said the police also recovered bullet proof vests, police and military uniforms, live ammunitions, cartridges and charms from the hoodlums.
