Kidnapped couple rescued in Edo

The Edo State Security Corps has rescued a husband and wife who were kidnapped by suspected gunmen in the state.

The couple, residents of the Igbo Camp in Ohordua, Esan South East Local Government Area, were working on their farm when the gunmen stormed the area and whisked them into the forest.

The kidnappers reportedly contacted the family and commenced negotiation for ransom payment.

The Commandant of the Edo State Security Corps, Richard Balogun, said following the report of the couple’s kidnapping, the Corps, comprising vigilantes and local hunters, mobilized for bush combing.

According to him, the kidnappers, upon sighting the team, engaged them in a gun battle, leading to the gunmen abandoning their victims.

He said the operatives successfully rescued the couple unhurt, and assured the Corps’ readiness to make farms in Edo safe.
