NMA urged the federal government to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youths
Dr Solomon Nidiamaka, a medical practitioner, who was kidnapped on Monday in Kogi State, has regained freedom.
Nidiamaka, who works with the General Hospital, Ugwolawo in Ofu Local Government Area of the state was kidnapped by unknown gunmen around 8:30 am from the premises of the hospital.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the state, Drs Omakoji Oyiguh and Famotele Tolorunju respectively yesterday said that the kidnapped doctor was released on Tuesday.
“The State Officer Council (SOC) of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi, wishes to update all concerned that our member, Dr Solomon Nidiamaka, who was kidnapped on July 19, regained his freedom from the cruel hands of kidnappers yesterday (Tuesday),” it said.
The statement was, however, silent on whether any ransom was paid to secure the release of the kidnapped doctor.
NMA said the traumatised Nidiamaka is currently being managed by his medical colleagues to bring him back to his normal state because of his experience in the hands of his abductors.
‘We’re in kidnapping business to feed’
NMA urged the federal government to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youths to stem the tide of kidnapping.
According to the association, the abductors of Nidiamaka said they went into kidnapping to meet financial obligations.
“We wish to inform the federal government that the kidnappers told our kidnapped colleague that they were in the business of kidnapping to be able to feed,” the association said.
