Kidnapped ex-President Jonathan’s aide’s sibling found dead

The abducted sibling of an aide of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Onijala Adegboyega, has been found dead inside a forest. He was kidnapped last Friday in Olla, Isin local Government Area of Kwara State.

His body was recovered by the police on Wednesday.

A statement by SP Ajayi Okasanmi, Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, said that the body of Adegboyega was recovered from a bush with deep cuts in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The police said he might have died as a result of injuries sustained while struggling with the kidnappers. The deceased popularly known as Oni-Jay, 56, was a brother to Ambassador Olutola Onijala, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan and a former gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State.

He reportedly resisted the gunmen but was later overpowered after they inflicted machete cuts on several parts of his body before whisking him away.

His abductors had demanded for N200m ransom but a family source told City News that they had negotiated the price to N10m before the latest development.

The source told our reporter that the deceased had been buried in Olla Wednesday morning.

According to him “the family had paid N400,000 to the kidnappers as demanded for the treatment of his wounds in the forest.”
