A former Senator who represented Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly, Nelson Effiong, has regained his freedom after 55 days in captivity.
Effiong was kidnapped in his lounge at Oron Road, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital by unknown gunmen on September 5, 2021.
The abductors who remained silent on their demands were later said to have demanded for N200 million as ransom from the family.
However, it remains uncertain whether the family paid anything before the senator was released.
Akwa Ibom State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Nkereuwem Enyongekere, announced his release in a press statement yesterday.
