Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have rescued a health worker who was kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Igueben, Edo State.
Three suspected kidnappers were also arrested following a gun battle with security operatives.
The victim was reportedly returning home from work with his wife and child when armed men, who had laid ambush at the entrance of his residence, accosted them at gunpoint and abducted him after firing sporadically.
The kidnappers reportedly released the victim’s wife and child, blindfolded him and whisked him away into a nearby forest.
Sources said the abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N50 million.

It was gathered that on May 17, 2026, the kidnappers, suspecting that security operatives were closing in on them, attempted to relocate the victim to another forest in Uhunwode Local Government Area to evade arrest.

The suspects were said to be conveying the victim on a motorcycle when operatives of the corps spotted them, leading to a gun battle during which the victim was rescued unhurt.

The Deputy Commander of the Corps, Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident, said three suspects had been arrested in connection with the abduction.
