Kidnapped victims rescued in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued two persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in the state.
The victims, identified as Musibau Kehinde Tracy, 24, and Edewor John, 39, were reportedly kidnapped by gunmen in the Izakagbo/Iwu community and taken into a nearby forest.
The command’s spokesperson, Wunmi Ikoedem, said the police received a report of the kidnapping incidents in the community and its environs.
She explained that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered immediate operational deployment and intelligence-driven policing across the affected area.
According to her, on April 5, 2026, following a well-coordinated ambush operation, the suspected kidnappers were intercepted at Iyera, along the pipeline after the Ovia River in Ovia North East Local Government Area.
She said the interception led to an exchange of gunfire between the police and the kidnappers, during which the victims were successfully rescued unharmed.
Ikoedem added that the victims are currently in safe custody and receiving necessary attention, while their families have been contacted.
She noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
