A suspected kidnapper has been arrested while trying to pick ransom money deposited at a maize farm in Bakori, Katsina.
The suspect, Yunusa Musa is said to be currently receiving treatment at Kankara General Hospital after he was shot while allegedly trying to evade arrest.
Daily Trust gathered that eight armed men had stormed the residence of one Wada Ibrahim in Guga village where they beat him up along with his wife Zina Hamisu before absconding with their seven-year-old daughter.
A family source who pleaded anonymity said the kidnappers had reached out to the family demanding N1.5million to be deposited at a maize farm for her release.
The family was said to have arranged a sting operation where the said money was kept and after few minutes one of the kidnapper came forward to collect it and in the process was caught by some youth who laid in wait. He was taken to police station and after interrogation the location of the kidnapped girl was uncovered and rescued, the source added.
During the handing over to the police the kidnapper was said to have attempted to run away before he was shot.
The spokesman of the Katsina police command DSP Gambo Isa confirmed the arrest of the kidnapper noting that he was shot trying to evade arrest and the rescued victim has been reunited with her parents.
