The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a commercial driver and the abduction of an unspecified number of passengers along the Benin–Lagos Highway.
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers reportedly ambushed a bus operated by GUO Transport on Sunday, killing the driver and taking the passengers hostage.
The attackers were said to have intercepted the vehicle on the Benin–Ore axis as it travelled from Lagos toward the eastern part of the country. They opened fire on the bus, forcing it to a halt.
The driver was reportedly killed on the spot, while the passengers were dragged into the surrounding bush.

Police spokesperson in the state, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, adding that a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.
She said officers have commenced bush-combing operations to rescue the abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible.
“The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa Police Division. The Commissioner of Police has directed adjoining divisions to support ongoing bush-combing efforts for the rescue operation,” she said.
