Kidnappers kill man, abduct 2 in Kogi community

Kidnappers have shot dead a 28-year-old man, simply identified as Benjamin, and abducted two others at Orobomi community in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A resident of the community, identified as Danjuma, said the incident happened around 1am on Sunday, when the kidnappers in their numbers wielding weapons invaded the community.

He said the kidnappers, who attacked a house in the community, opened fire on the deceased when he insisted that they spare his mother and one other person in the house.

“The man insisted that the kidnappers should spare his mother, that they should instead take him. So as he was dragging with them, when one of the gunmen opened fire on him and they whisked way his mother and one other person from the house,” he said.

A member of the vigilante in the area, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the killing of one person and abduction of two others in the community.

He said before the police mobilised to the village, the kidnappers had already taken the woman and one other victim into the bush, adding that the vigilante are still combing the forest around the area to trace their hideout.

City News also learnt that a man and his wife were abducted in the same community a month ago after gunmen invaded the area.

The spokesman of the Kogi State Police Command, DSP Williams Ovye Aya, was yet to pick calls or reply to a text message sent him about the incident.
