…Kidnappers of Abuja farmers demand N4m ransom

Kidnappers of two Tiv farmers in Rafindaji community in Abaji Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have demanded N4 million ransom before the victims will be set free.

Daily Trust had reported that two Tiv farmers, Ezekiel Tsenongu and Clement Ubun, were abducted by suspected bandits on motorcycle while returning from Madani village, where they went to visit their kinsmen residing in the community on December 19, 2021, at about 5:12 pm.

It was also reported that after the abduction of the two farmers, the fleeing bandits had, on December 20, proceeded to Gulida village and chased away farmers who were working on their farms.

The village head of Gulida, Sadauna Abubakar, confirmed the incident to our reporter.

A resident of the community, who is mediating between families of the kidnapped victims and the bandits but preferred anonymity, said the kidnappers were insisting on collecting N4 million before the victims would regain their freedom.

He said the kidnappers had earlier demanded N15 million when contact was established with them before they settled for N4.

“They actually demanded N15 million as ransom but we kept on pleading with them before they now arrived at N4 million, which we are still begging them to still beat down the ransom,” he said.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, did not answer calls or reply to a text message sent to her about the ransom demand, though she had earlier said the police were not aware of the abduction of the farmers.
