Kidnappers of a pregnant woman and her sister in Edo State have shot one of the victims out of frustration following intense pressure from the combined security team comprising police, vigilante and hunters.
The police said the kidnappers shot one of the victims on the leg out of frustration when the police were closing in on them and abandoned their victims.
The victims identified as Esther Friday, 32, and Joy Iregbeyen, 23, were rescued by the police while the woman shot is responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Recall that the pregnant woman and her sister were kidnapped on April 14, at Uloke community in Etsako West local government of the state when gunmen stormed their residence, shot the husband dead and whisked them into the bush.
The command spokesman, Moses Yamu, said following the report of the incident, the DPO’s anti-kidnapping team, in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters, mobilised for bush combing to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.
