The growing wave of kidnapping in Nigeria is worrisome and getting out of hand except the situation. Before the menace was issue in South South and South East alone, but it has spread to other regions like South West and North West. So it has gone beyond regional or state issue it must be seen as one of the national security threat and should be treated as such.
It is very unfortunate that those who are into this dastardly act by their action recently in Kaduna State are inhuman, enemy of the state and unbeliever in almighty God. By kidnapping and murdered of religious leaders and army officer who are symbol of our peace and security, definitely they have declared war against the state. if these caliber of people can be a victim then nobody is save.
It becomes imperative for federal and state governments to join hand together to tackle it, while the citizens must be vigilant and security conscious in their movement. Travelers should make sure the board vehicles at recognized motor parks, private motorist should avoid moving alone on a silent or less busy road and also avoid lifting unknown person.
The state government should as a matter of urgency ban private motorist who are into transporting people by taking passengers along the road, because criminal are using that avenue to commit their evil act. Those motor who are for commercial transport should be numbered and loading in the park alone.
More so, the federal government needs to review and reform Nigeria police to meet up with emerging security challenge. The primary assignment of police in a democratic nation is to maintain law and order and internal security, our police force had been over stretched by those numerous security challenges due inadequacy of personnel to police the nation, 170,000 policemen are not enough to secure 180Million people. However, Nigeria police need moral rebirth and rebranding, significant numbers of its personnel lack moral commitment to do the job that is seriously undermine the effective service delivery from them, lack of proactive approach, weakness of intelligent gathering, new security devices and training also contribute to the security lapses we are witnessing today.
