The President of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTS), Barrister Ken Okaoha, has warned that the nation’s  economy is speedily losing grip as farmers are being dislodged from the North, which is noted for its large farming activities.

In his message to the participants at the training for tracking farmers manifestos commitment, Okaoha, observed that traders from other parts of the country were afraid to come to the north for fear of being kidnaped or killed.

The President, who was represented by the North West Zonal Coordinator, James A.M. Sako, said attacks on farmers was reducing productivity and urged the Federal government to take action by protecting the farmers in the country.

“Traders are getting scared of moving the few goods available towards the required market destinations. The killings are getting so much and fast destroying the fabrics of trade and the distribution of goods and services across the country,” he said.

He urged traders not to increase prices of food items simply because of the new minimum wage for the workers.

He reminded them that such increase was unnecessary, immoral and perhaps wicked.

In her remarks, the women leader of the association Hajiya Hadiza Abdulfatah, called on women to engage in farming to cater for the well-being of their family, adding that the era of women practicing full housewife was over.
