The Association of Hunters in Taraba State has offered to assist the police and other security agencies in tackling the menace of kidnapping in the state.

The women leader of the association in the state Malama Habiba Isa Hassan said this in an interview with Daily Trust in Jalingo yesterday.

The huntress however said they would only render their assistance when formally invited by the police or any other security agents.

Malama Habiba said that members of the association were once invited where they assisted in rescuing the abducted brother of a prominent politician in the state.

“The rescue mission was successful and the victim was rescued unhurt with no ransom paid,” she said.

She said the hunters who were always in the bush which gives them the advantage of knowing all forest and areas with difficult terrain in the state.

Malama Habiba said kidnappers in the state and elsewhere use the bush and forest as their primary base of operation and therefore hunters were in a better position checkmate them.

She said it was on record that hunters are offering support and assistance to the Nigerian Army in the war against Boko- Haram insurgents.

Malama Habiba disclosed that there were many people in the bush and forest across the state and most of those in the forest have no business to be there

“We can‘t arrest anybody we see in the bush because we are not authorized by the law to do so but once we are invited formally to support the police and other security agents to fight kidnappers we would come forward,” Malama Habiba said.
