He said the kidnappers started shooting sporadically but that the vigilantes and hunters mobilised and engaged them and in the process rescued the victims.
He said after a fierce gun battle with the vigilantes and the hunters, the kidnappers succeeded in escaping with two of the five children.
According to him, the kidnappers missed their target at the house, saying, “Actually, the kidnappers came with the intention of abducting a new tenant who just parked into the house yesterday with his family, but they mistakenly abducted a widow, her kids and a pastor.”
A member of the vigilantes, who was part of the operation but preferred anonymity, confirmed the rescue of the pastor, widow and her three children, saying the kidnappers succeeded in escaping with two children.
The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to reply to a text message sent to her on the incident.
