Police in Adamawa State have confirmed the release of the 13-year-old daughter of a pastor who was kidnapped by gunmen last Wednesday after the murder of her father and two brothers.
Gunmen had attacked the residence of Pastor Daniel Umaru of the ‘Eklesiyyar ‘Yanuwa a Nigeria’ known in English as Church of Brethren (EYN) at Njairi in Mubi North Local Government Area, killing his two sons on the spot and leaving him with gunshot injuries before kidnapping the minor. Umaru was rushed to the hospital where he eventually died from the gunshot.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, Sulaiman Nguroje told Daily Trust that the kidnapped teenager had returned home Saturday night and reunited with her family.
He said the police launched a manhunt for the criminal gang that committed the crime, saying the command would not rest until the culprits were brought to book.
A family source disclosed that the kidnapped girl was released after payment of huge money in ransom but did not disclose the amount.
The remains of Daniel, his sons, Xelry Daniel 19 and Fanye Daniel 23 were laid to arrest on Friday.
