The Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Central Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Nuru Khalid has advocated for national prayers, which, he said, became imperative due to the unwarranted brutal attacks and killings in different parts of the country. 

The cleric made the call during a Book Launch and Pre-Ramadan Lecture, organized by Islamic Research and Da’awah Foundation in Abuja. 

“Nigeria needs a national prayer,” he said, urging religious leaders to bring Nigerians together to supplicate to the Almighty God for peace to reign in the country. 

“The power of supplication is stronger than the power of problem,” he said.  

In his remarks, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, expressed concerns that some Nigerians still carry the wrong perception that the carnage and bloodletting were perpetuated in the name of religion despite efforts by religious leaders to condemn the heinous acts. 

This, he said, was far from the reality. “As religious leaders, it is our duty to bridge the gap between perception and reality.”

He urged both Muslims and Christians to unite and find a lasting solution to the common challenges facing the country, saying that the killers “are targeting all of us.”

In his lecture, themed “Ramadan and Peace Building”, Imam Fouad Adeyemi, urged Muslims to live with the teachings of Ramadan during and after the holy month. 

“The peaceful attitude Ramadan imposes on us should remain with us after the holy month” he advised.
