The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has extended condolences to the Government and people of Benue State over the recent tragic incidents that have resulted in the loss of lives and destruction of property.
In a statement, NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, said the association was in solidarity with the affected families, communities, and the entire Benue populace “during this challenging time”.
“These acts of violence and calls on all relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Military, and all other relevant security agencies to intensify their efforts in safeguarding lives and property. We urge enhanced intelligence gathering, proactive measures, and collaborative strategies to address the recurring insecurity in Benue State and beyond.”
“NANS notes with grave concerns about the safety of students writing exams in the affected communities. Therefore, we demand the conscientious provision of adequate security for those students as the security and safety of our students remain an uncompromising priority. More so, students will mostly strive for excellence in an atmosphere of tranquillity and comfort.
“NANS appeals to the Federal and Benue State Governments, alongside humanitarian organizations, to provide immediate relief, including medical care, shelter, and psychological support, to those affected. NANS further advocates for strengthened community-based security initiatives to foster lasting peace.
“NANS mourn with the people of Benue State, we pray for the repose of the departed and the swift recovery of the injured. Let us unite to ensure such tragedies are prevented in the future.”
