King David, a hero of faith

Great faith in God makes you a hero. You can become a shining star, an overcomer, a winner. By faith you can change your report. Miracles happen not to the deserving but to the believing.
In Hebrews 11:33-35 the Bible describes Heroes of Faith as those, “… Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouth of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword … women received their dead raised to life again…”
God will stop the mouths of all the lions trying to destroy you in Jesus name!
Our hero of faith for this week is a young lad called David born to Jesse in a little city called Bethlehem. He was the last of eight sons. His mission was to take food to his elder brothers who were in the war front. He was not qualified to be in the army (he was too young, just 17 at the time), yet he became a champion. He had been anointed earlier by the Prophet Samuel to be the next King of Israel after King Saul messed up. He was not even thought of as king material because he didn’t look like it. But he was God’s choice. He arrived the battle field anointed and confronted Goliath the giant of Gath, and champion of the Philistine army (1Samuel 17:4-23; 1Samuel 21:9; 1Samuel 22:10). Goliath defied the armies of Israel, challenging anyone to meet him in single combat while the two armies faced each other at Ephesdammim. He was slain by the youthful David to rescue Israel while bigger and older men were intimidated. He did not compare Goliath to himself but to God. While others were talking about the giant, he was talking about God. The society may disqualify you, your background may disqualify you but as long as you are filled with the power of God and filled with faith, you will become a champion.
He prevailed where others failed. He brought down Goliath; the giant came crashing down! It does not matter how many people have failed before in your family, office, school or business, you will prevail in Jesus’ name! God will subdue your enemies. They will fall before you! Goliath was a huge man – a giant. His sight alone was frightening, he was well armed and dangerous but David was not intimidated. Your enemies may appear huge, your problems may loom large; don’t be afraid of them. God is with you. They shall crumble before you! You cannot operate in faith and fear at the same time; you must choose one. David stood on his Covenant position. He understood that the battle was a battle of deities and his God was superior that of the Philistines. He knew that nothing was impossible with God.
David needed only a small stone out of the five he picked to bring down Goliath. Look around you; the solution to your problem is within your reach. In fact, you have more than you need. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you your instrument of victory. Usually, it is something you might tend to overlook.
Only turn it over to God. May God open your eyes to recognise that “small stone” you need! You’re the next hero of faith.
This lad who was not qualified to be in the army, displayed much guts, tore a bear and a lion barehanded and brought down a giant with just a stone is our hero of faith.
I see every giant in your life coming down! God’s strength will be made perfect in your weakness. That little faith of yours will bring monumental results!
They tried to discourage David but he stood his ground. Don’t give up; it will soon be over. David ended up on the throne. You may right now be despised and forgotten but you can end up on the throne. I see your crown! Go for it!
His patience
David was a patient man. He was also a God-fearing man. It takes the fear of God to demonstrate the type of patience he exhibited.
He was anointed to be king and he knew it. He was the youngest among eight sons. Destiny had smiled on him but the road to the throne was not going to be as ‘easy’ as his selection.
Not long after his anointing by a prophet of no mean stature, Samuel, he had his first taste of leadership. He led the nation to victory in the battle against the Philistines by defeating their champion, Goliath the giant who intimidated Israel for about a month. Was Saul going to vacate the throne for him after that? No way! In fact it was the beginning of the test of his patience – a virtue only a few possess today.
After a stint of dedicated service to the king in the same palace where he was destined to rule, he became a fugitive, running for his dear life. At this point, you might want to ask what happened to the anointing. Was it genuine? Why couldn’t he use it then to claim the throne? The anointing was real and from God but it was post-dated! He had to wait for the appointed time, which God did not reveal to him.
Have you ever felt like you have been waiting indefinitely for a particular promise? David must have felt that way especially when you don’t know when it is all going to end.
Frustrating as it may have been, David had to wait and he waited patiently. Impatient men take laws into their hands and do things their own way but David was a patient man, a godly man, a God-fearing man. He had several opportunities to kill the king and step in but he decided that if God authored it, He should finish it! Many have killed the ‘Sauls’ in their lives and got into trouble with God but David was not ready to kill the Lord’s anointed. To stay out of trouble, stay away from anointed men of God. Don’t speak evil against them; it is dangerous! His faith in God was strong. Saul’s cup eventually became full and he died in battle along with his son. David mourned them genuinely. What a great man!
He did not scheme, bribe, or fight to get to the throne. Don’t cut corners. Wait patiently for your husband, wife, children, breakthrough, whatever it is you are believing God for.
God has been preserving you for your destiny. He will not fail you. Just one more step, you will be on the throne! Your crown is waiting!! DON’T GIVE UP; DON’T QUIT.
